Innovative Space Design: The Art of Interior Comfort


The 2025 Murano's expanded width, now measuring 1981 millimetres, directly enhances interior spaciousness. This dimensional increase allows for a more open cabin architecture, particularly noticeable in the shoulder and hip room. Senior Design Director Giovanny Arroba explains the team's approach: "It's a spa-like retreat. We want drivers to be pampered." This philosophy appears in thoughtful details throughout the cabin, from the positioning of controls to the careful arrangement of storage spaces.


The seating design introduces several innovations in comfort technology. The deep blue-and-black quilted leather seats feature a unique two-tone design that divides upper and lower sections, creating visual depth while delivering practical comfort benefits. The quilting pattern itself results from extensive ergonomic research, providing support during long drives while maintaining a luxurious appearance. "You feel that same harmony as when you're on the beach looking at the sunset," Arroba explains, describing how the horizontal design themes contribute to a sense of calm within the cabin.


Technology and Comfort Integration


The Murano's interior technology enhances rather than interrupts the comfort-focused environment. Dual 12.3-inch displays mount behind specially wrapped, stitched materials, eliminating the harsh edges typically associated with digital screens. "We didn't want to just drop them in," Arroba notes. "We covered them with wrapped, stitched materials so that they feel harmoniously integrated into the interior."


The climate control system demonstrates similar attention to user comfort. Touch-capacitive controls integrate into wood-like trim sections, allowing for intuitive temperature and ventilation adjustments without disrupting the cabin's refined aesthetics. This implementation mirrors the sophisticated systems found in the Nissan Ariya, delivering what Arroba describes as "warm tech elegance."


A standout comfort feature appears in the dashboard design, where a unique three-layer finisher creates subtle color gradations inspired by Murano glass. This artistic element serves a practical purpose, reducing visual fatigue during driving while maintaining the interior's upscale appearance. The steering wheel adopts a two-spoke, horizontal design that improves forward visibility and provides a more relaxed grip during extended drives.


The attention to interior comfort extends to ambient elements. The horizontal theme running throughout the cabin creates a sense of spaciousness, while carefully selected materials reduce noise and enhance the feeling of serenity. Even the smallest details receive consideration - from the texture of touch points to the positioning of storage solutions.


Program Design Director Tase Nobutaka emphasizes how achieving this level of interior refinement required early collaboration between design and engineering teams. The result delivers a cabin that prioritizes comfort without compromising functionality. Each element, from the seating position to the placement of controls, works in concert to create an environment that reduces stress and enhances the driving experience.
